Concerns Regarding Jetskis on the Kromme River
REPORT BACK ON KROMME JOINT RIVER COMMITTEE MEETING
HELD ON THE 10 TH SEPTEMBER 2009
Colin Beckley and John Robson attended the above meeting representing the Jet Ski Club and the SFBRHA. The committee thanked them for their promptness in forming a club for Jet ski owners, together with a consititution and set of rules.
They, however, had a few misgivings.
1. Law enforcement.
They felt that at least three police officers were needed to patrol the river. Craft for the additional officers would also be a problem. Mr. Frank Silberbauer would get in touch with the Council in this regard and he would be forming a sub-committee to look into these problems.
2. Identification.
After registration all jet skis will have a number that will be as clear as those on any other craft.
3. The interpretation of traversing.
To John Robson’s knowledge, traversing means you may go from point A to point B by the shortest possible route. This means no circling i.e. doing donuts on the way.
4. Evidence
From past experience we feel that Mr. Hein Cornelissen would have to advise us on exactly what evidence he would need to be able to prosecute an offender.
5. The legal status of the Jet Ski Club.
The Jet ski Club is affiliated the St Francis Bay Skiboat and Yacht Club, their constitution and rules were ratified by this body. The St Francis Bay Skiboat and Yacht Club is in turn affiliated to SAMSA.
6. Speed limits
Our suggestion is 35 kpm on the river.
7. Environment
Rod Phillips handed in a copy of an article that was written by Ben Pretorius together with a two page list of queries on the rules and constitution. (see attached).
