To All the Committee and fellow members……….
My Family and I have been living in St Francis Bay for the past 7 years and have being visiting on holiday for the past 20 years and I have watched, with interest and amusement, at the beach reclamation saga. I was born and breed on the Durban beach and as an provincial and Ex professional surfer, we as kids and adults grew up thru all the eras of same issues SFB has, and is going thru with the beach reclamation.
I have looked at the current system now in place and to be honest, everyone is claiming that it is working…..todate we have no real storm swells to test and even if it is “working” and in addition, the process has been painstakingly slow, the beaches are no better off now than a year ago.
There is only ONE way to reclaim sand for the beaches and that is to replace it with MORE sand. The sand has to come from somewhere to build up,sand does not simply replace itself or grow. The current system needs scraping and the implementation of a real sand pumping system needs to be installed as in Durban.
Please see attachment for a real perspective of how this system works and will ultimately improve the SFB beaches to its former glory.
Food for thought………..
Regards
Raymond Robertson
